BGOT Founder

God gave KMo the vision of Black Girls of Dallas in 2018. This was something she wanted as a small group to get to know other Black Women in the metroplex. It was meant to stay just that, but God had other plans. The group did well with several planned meet ups since the start in 2018. Buzz started surrounding the brand at the end of 2019 into early 2020. Black Girls of Dallas was renamed Black Girls of Texas in 2020. After February that year the Facebook group and Instagram numbers skyrocketed in which seemed to be over night!

My Story

Karlyn Morrison affectionately known as KMo was born and raised in Oklahoma City. She is the middle child of three to her parents who have been married 37 years. Throughout her childhood, she has always had a fun loving and bubbly spirit. Her mother always said she never met a stranger. She would talk to a tree if it would listen.

This personality catapulted her into the things she would do next. She has always been in choir from a young age nut at 17 she was able to join a group called “Wings of Harmony” under the direction of Tyrone Stanley. Being apart of this group helped her find her love of expression through theater and the arts. This was something that fit her well.

During college she continued to perform with the Langston University Chorale. They traveled every Spring Break to perform in different cities. She also participated in a children’s play that they performed for different elementary schools. Doing this kept her passion for performing alive and also aided in her love of children as she pursued her degree in Early Childhood Education. During her time in college she joined the Oh So Lovely Ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Spring 2013.

After college KMo moved to Texas to embark on a new journey of the unknown to start a new life she had always dreamed of. She has lived in several cities during her time but something just was not right. She didn’t know many people outside of work and needed community. She is passionate about people and specifically, her own people. She joined a few groups but they just weren’t fulfilling. She wanted to have something that would connect her to women like her.

God gave her the vision of Black Girls of Dallas in 2018.

In September 2020 KMo became official and got registered under The Black Girls Brand, LLC. In June of 2021 BGOT had their first sold out event. Prior to that; a plethora of women found their tribes, built their businesses, and started other groups all from Black Girls of Texas. We get plenty of testimonials from women who have been impacted by BGOT. What she thought was minor, was major in God’s eyes and he definitely has a different plan.

Present day; KMo continues to work as a first grade teacher while still running BGOT. She soon hopes to be able to go full time with the brand and expand beyond Texas. She loves Black people with all of her heart and knows that with one anothers support, we all can and will win!
